    Description

Listed is this 1929, indicated by the 29-2-3 dating stamp, Edwin M. Knowles China Co. cream pitcher or creamer in the MAYFLOWER SHAPE with pink, white, navy and orange flowers in a white cartouche on a teal blue band with dark blue scrolls all around the middle. This old piece is an interesting example of the 1920's depression years banded patterns typical many companies at the time. The shape is a dodecagon, meaning 12 sided/paneled, and was a popular shape in the art deco period which began and developed into a major style in western Europe and the United States during the 1930's, so this is one of the early pieces. The handle is covered with thick gold gilt, and a thin gold gilt decorates the rim and foot. The bottom has a gold gilt number on the outside which says 417 1/2 which is called a "decoration" number in the company's printed advertising. There is crazing, hard to see unless inspected closely, and two small beige stains in the bowl which can be seen in the closeup photos and some black specks under the clear glaze made in manufacture.
